Some cankers are of only minor consequence, but others are ultimately lethal and therefore of major economic importance in agriculture and causes include such a wide range of organisms as fungi, bacteria, mycoplasmas and majority of canker-causing organisms are bound to a unique.
Cankers also are caused by obligate parasites such as rusts, as discussed earlier (see “Rust Fungi”). Cankers can be grouped into three general categories: woody stem perennial cankers, woody stem diffuse cankers, and twig and shoot blights, all of which are described in the following paragraphs.
